Who may use Interlibrary Loan?

  • The UI Library lends materials to other libraries for their patrons to use. This is strictly a library-to library transaction and we do not photocopy periodicals or lend books to individuals.
  • Individuals must ask their local libraries to request materials from us.

What type of material do we lend?
  • Books (unless listed below)
  • Doctoral dissertations and masters theses
  • Most microfilm and microfiche. Maximum of four reels at a time. The UI Library retains the circulating microfilm of Idaho newspapers.
  • Musical scores
  • Most U.S. government and Idaho state documents.
  • Photocopies of periodical articles

  • Special Collections
  • Refence books
  • Maps
  • Complete issues of unbound periodicals
  • Reserve materials
  • Bound periodicals
  • Audiovisual materials

Returnable Items
  • Loan Period: 45 days.
  • Renewals: one, for 28 days - Materials are subject to recall
  • We loan internationally
  • Items can be shipped via FedEx if the requesting library provides an account number.
  • Costs to academic and other not-for-profit libraries: No charge in the U.S. and Canada
  • The cost of first-class airmail postage to other locations charged by IFM or invoice.
  • Costs to for-profit libraries; * $20.00 to U.S. and Canadian requestors.
  • $20.00 plus first class air mail postage to other locations charged by IFM or invoice.

Non-Returnable Items
  • Ariel is our preferred method of delivery. Other photocopies will be sent via U.S. mail, courier or fax.
  • Costs to not-for profit libraries: No charge to LVIS and other libraries with which we have reciprocal agreements
  • Idaho: $5.00 for 1-25 pages and .20/page for each additional page. 50-page limit for Ariel transmission.
  • Other U.S. and Canada: $10.00 for 1-25 pages, .20/page for each additional page.
  • Costs to for-profit libraries: Ariel and mail: $20.00 1-25 pages and .20/page for each additional page.

  • Requests are generally filled within 24 hours of receipt
