Engineering to Induct Class of 2015 Academy of Engineers

Wednesday, April 8

The College of Engineering is set to induct six members into its Academy of Engineers on Thursday, April 9, at the annual Academy of Engineers and College Awards ceremony.  The Academy of Engineers, now in its fifth year, honors eminent engineers who are University of Idaho alumni or engineers deeply connected to UI’s strong legacy of global engineering impact. Academy members are recognized for their personal contributions to engineering achievement, leadership, engineering education, and lifetime commitment to advancing the quality of life through service to the profession and society.

This year’s inductees are:

Don Kopczynski, B.S. electrical engineering, 1979
Charles C. Mitchell, B.S. electrical engineering, 1959
Burch Roark, B.S. mechanical engineering, 1955
George Simmons, B.S. chemical engineering, 1965; M.S. chemical engineering,1966
Allen Stubberud, B.S. electrical engineering, 1956
Keith Van Scotter, B.S. chemical engineering, 1977; M.S. chemical engineering,1979

As part of their induction the new academy members will spend the day touring the engineering complex. They will meet with research faculty and graduate students and have the opportunity to visit the college’s state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. In the evening, their induction into the academy will precede the annual college awards ceremony that will also recognize this year’s outstanding seniors, graduate students, faculty and staff.

“One of the greatest things about having the new class of Academy of Engineers come to campus for their induction ceremony is that during the event the new members get to meet and have dinner with our outstanding faculty, undergraduate seniors and graduate students, ” said Larry Stauffer, dean of the College of Engineering. “It’s a full circle of our college’s best and brightest.”
