Librarian Ben Hunter receives prestigious "Mover & Shaker" award.

 

Library JournalUniversity of Idaho librarian Ben Hunter has been named a “Mover & Shaker” in the library industry by the national publication, Library Journal.

In its March 15, 2013 issue, Library Journal identified 50 outstanding professionals committed to providing excellent service to meet the needs of the people they serve. Hunter, who leads the University of Idaho Library’s Cataloging and Collections department, was selected because of his commitment to librarianship and success transforming the library’s technical services department. 

A Moscow native, Hunter began his library career at the University of Idaho as a reference and instruction librarian in 2006 and moved to his current position, Head of Cataloging and Collections, in 2009. He holds a master’s degree in library science (University of North Carolina Chapel Hill ’06), served as an Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Fellow and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions at Simmons College. With undergraduate (University of Idaho ’00) and graduate (University of Oregon ’04) degrees in music composition, Hunter also serves as the UI Library’s music librarian.

The 2013 Movers & Shakers were selected by the editors of Library Journal, the profession’s leading trade magazine. “Each member of this year’s Movers & Shakers class embodies service to their community and a passion for advancing libraries and their profession,” said Mike Kelley, Library Journal Editor-in-Chief.
