UI Library Research Colloquium: Historic Vandal Athletic Resources

A  UI Library Research Colloquium will explore its collections of Vandal Videos, Vandal Football Historical Gameday Program Covers, and other historical Vandal Athletics resources in a program scheduled for Friday, November 1, at 12:30pm on the main floor of the library. The public is invited to attend.

Digital Initiatives Librarian, Devin Becker, will give a guided tour of these unique collections, including a discussion of their acquisition and digitation by the library. He will be assisted by Garth Reese, head of the library’s Special Collections and Archives department, and Jordan Wrigley, researcher for the 125th Anniversary History Committee, who will also highlight other University of Idaho historical documents.

The Vandal videos span the years 1925 to 1997 and include exciting victories against Boise State, Washington State, and other schools. The 160-plus, 16mm film reels were held by the library’s Special Collections and Archives and digitized for the library’s digital collections in 2011.

The Vandal Gameday program covers span the years 1908 to 1967 and include both home and away games. 2014 calendars featuring images of the Gameday covers, produced by Asgard Press, will be for sale at the colloquium.

The University of Idaho Library Research Colloquium series was established to bring librarians and researchers together to discuss a common research interest. For more information, contact Devin Beck at dbecker@uidaho.edu.
