About Special Collections

"I am large, I contain multitudes."
-- Walt Whitman, Song of Myself
The Special Collections and Archives Department of the University of Idaho Library includes those materials that, because of subject coverage, rarity, source, condition, or form, are best handled separately from the General Collection. Among the larger collections are the Day-Northwest Collection, Rare Books, Idaho Documents, Sir Walter Scott Collection, Ezra Pound Collection, Caxton Collection, University of Idaho Theses, Historical Photograph Collection, and Personal Papers and University Archives.

All of these collections are cataloged into the library's main bibliographic catalog, each with its own prefix. In addition, Special Collections has prepared guides, inventories, and databases to provide better access to its materials. These are available in the Department.

Special Collections is located on the Ground Floor of the Library. The entrance is between Government Documents and the Map Room on the first floor.

Inquiries about materials in Special Collections can be directed to: speccoll@drseuss.lib.uidaho.edu or call 208-885-7951.
