The Patent and Trademark collection is located on the first floor of the library. Please ask at the Information Desk for assistance in locating and using the materials. A computer workstation and printer are reserved solely for patent and trademark research. Available for use on this workstation are the CASSIS2 system and PubWEST, as well as internet access to the USPTO website.
Patent document and trademark registration images are also available online at the USPTO website. A viewer must be downloaded before patent images can be accessed from this site.

- US Patents (USPT): full text of most patents issued from 1971 – present; patent number, publication date, and current classification information for all patents 1790 – present; titles of utility patents from 1920 – 1970 are also available in this file.
- US Optical Character Recognition (USOCR): Scanned, unedited copies of US patents issued between 1920-1970 and those from 1971-1976 missing from the USPT file.
- Pre Grant Publications (PGP): utility patent applications that have been pending for at least 18 months.
- European Patents (EPAB): published documents from the European Patent Office (EPO), selected EPO member countries (Switzerland, Germany, France, Great Britain), the US Patent Office, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Starting dates for individual countries vary.
- Japanese Patents (JPAB): English language abstracts of unexamined Japanese patent applications, starting October, 1976

In addition, the library contains many other publications of interest to researchers and inventors. The core collection includes the Index to the U.S. Patent Classification, the Manual of Classification, the Official Gazette: Patents, the Official Gazette: Trademarks, Attorneys and Agents Registered to Practice Before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Design Code Manual for Trademarks, annual indexes for both trademarks and patents, fee schedules, etc.
The resources in the Patent and Trademark collection do not circulate; however, there is a 2nd copy of many of the books not included in the core collection that can be checked out. Titles are included in the library catalog and include helpful resources such as:
