UI Library Offers Geoprocessing Workshop

Geoprocessing is the topic of a new workshop scheduled for the month of February. Presented by the University of Idaho Library's Data & Digital Services unit, "Speeding Up Geoprocessing in ArcGIS" will be offered on three different days and locations -the UI Library in Moscow, UI Coeur d'Alene, and online as a Webinar.

Dates and Times:

February 6, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., University of Idaho Library (Moscow), Room 212A
February 13, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m., University of Idaho Coeur d'Alene, Room 240B
Feb 20, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. (PST), Webinar

Workshop Description:

Many modern computers possess multiple-core CPUs. Dividing an ArcGIS geoprocessing operation into multiple processes can speed up performance by simultaneously running these processes across several cores. This workshop will provide a practical introduction to (1) the Parallel Processing Factor environment setting and (2) using the multiprocessing Python module with ArcPy. Attendees will be provided several practical examples that divide and perform operations across multiple processes. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own geoprocessing examples to discuss potential ways that they may be able to take advantage of the concepts discussed in this workshop.
