New Years 1888
yesterday Sab was New Years communion Archie assisted. I tried to look past the minister to Jesus. it was a better day than the day the crows were here. Jonah was reinstated in the Eldership after years of Silence. hope he is too old to care for Women now. Jonah Seems to look with admiration up to archie a great change since spring. & Edward slipped out with eight dollars for our dear Minister who would add to it. a change indeed.

Dear Me. the troubles of an Indian Reservation. for six Months the dear Eaves family have been here in Gov. S building - almost daily collission with Agent. they were ordered to take charge of Fort S boys. Mr E & Lucile went down. police came ordered them out of hospital building. they came back stores & all. shortly after Select came with the order for them to leave the Reservation. there are the Eaves, William’s & Harmins all the Employee’s in this building here & the boys at the Fort without any one. Oh! Oh! Mr E pointed to the guns behind the door. May God "cool down"  his hasty Southern temper down -- & bring good out of all this the Harmins are going to stay a few days at Mr Ds. a few months & Mr D will go too.

Just in from the S house. Mr & Mrs Harmon Mr D. & My self in Mr & Mrs William’s room. Mr Eves came up. Dear Mrs. E & family down in rooms of S building at Fort. What a week this has been with trouble. Mr Eaves refused to take the rooms assigned & set up his stores in hospital. was ordered out by Police in an hour after returning to his home here was ordered off the reservation, by Select Chief of Police Silcot, next day Mrs E Mr E. Lucile all walked down was refused a place there told to leave at once. teams would be ready at 9 in the morning. in the morning teams were at the door with all the Whites on the reservation. White Council As Mrs Henry screamed in Amelias Ears. the Charge to the Jury was eloquent  but such squirming to evade pointed question. Mr & Mrs Williams showed they understood all about the law. it was agreeed that the Eaves’s would occupy rooms in s building until Inspector would come little dreaming he would come that very night. the Harmons were ordered off the reservation for asking for reasons for dismissal. how will all this end.

Such a good Sab. S. & preaching. A away. Mr D. preached upon S. S. testament 18 of Mathew. Mr D. has now told Elders to chose a pastor so here is the same thing over we had last spring. Archie & Peter. A seems to have all his armies working. Oh Lord do not have this poor people to be led to death for he is a blind leader. I would soon be maneuvered out of S. S. & every place else. Mr E & Ruth was up to s s & church. I gave Mr M. & Dr E. letters to show Mr E about the forbiding of telling Bible stories in Gov. S. Oh how I do love Thy Law. Oh Lord I can truly say & do get so near the Master. My S. is small but Work large. Lord make it to grow. Mr D told Me As daughters were laughing at something I said in S. S. thank the Lord none of these things move Me now. Edie C new Deacon was in for hymn book-

To God be all the praise. Hath heard the voice of My Supplication for this poor easily led people. Yesterday the Election for Pastor Was Just about what it was last spring twice as Many for Peter L as for Archie. poor Amy has not been out at church today. but We only have to wait & watch. the Lords doing to see the proud humbled. All the Acts & powers used & yet the Lord has shown himself above them all. for days I dropped down any where in My house pleading for this people that the Lord would care for all for the sake of the few. & So He has told Me He has not clean gone forever. after the terrible year of deadness. is this the turning point. God Grant it how warped & woven this people are in around My heart strings - how quickly Enochs votes were handed over to Peter. Jonahs maneuvering failed. Will I ever be so afraid & troubled again & now I would consecrate Myself anew. Praise the Lord for All His benefits to Me. Mine & to this people. Strange it will seem in the eyes of the world this Grand Minister the left one - all the other seven have places - & he the Son of a head Chief. Lord empty him & fill him with Thy grace. all know now the Gentle Mr D who has been before this people for 10 years is to leave them. What a beautiful Illustration. of the christian Gentleman he has been. Oh but Our S S Lesson are beautiful instruments. Lord fasten the truth! I tried to tell them about the Passover. for One lesson was Jesus talk to the Disciples on the Way to Jerusalem. Mr D. Illustrated by piling up books the differences between the Worldly honors & the honors in spiritual kingdom - Christ’s place while here was under all. [illegible] now Servants.

Communion today - think I had a sadder but better heart than the two past communions. Mr Deffenbaughs last Sab here as Minister. Peter the pastor elect. & Archie were in Church. the Vote for the rotary Eldership was taken. five Men stood up Ed. & Joseph both made speaches in favor of it. in this matter two as well as the Electing of paster shows the Lord has not left Us. but Oh the quarrelings the hatred & all that that is among them. I to be the only White among them. for the other Whites do not present themselves in the Sanctuary. Agent says Peter shall not go into Mr D’s unit Oh. Oh. but I will need Wisdom from on high to keep from under some law. truly it is Me wats pa hinanin. I gave Hyoksa her dinner today remembering I gave Sarah so cold a reception lately. & She is so near to the Hzwaniresh today. - poor things what an exchange from this reservation to heaven. dear Lord May Many there- Oh Lord keep near Me for I feel so alone now.

What A Sab the first after Mr D leaving. Kamiahns Not down as was expected. they would be on their way to Pres. Archie & Peter. Archies last sermon he had much blessing the people. After he was done Abraham made a warm speach wanting to pay A for the Year. Cap Kane rose made a bitter reply. let them pay him whoever wanted him  & that now there was a timash to go before Pres. to investigate Archie for Stealing (keeping back money). perhaps it is so - congregation went out. Peter says strong times afterward. Stamits ordered no services next Sab. none No more prayermeetings. & Mine the only White face among these fierce bands. I cannot help but feel sorry for A. how have I seen the Mightly fallen! I saw A hurry home his friend J. M visiting him. in the meantime it was nearly five OCock before prayermeeting commenced such a fear of a scene I think in all hearts. Much Singing blessed Singing & the Spirit came. yes. how often here My fainting heart says He is here. I Sang Tenderly the Shepheard. Abraham Jumped up confess his wrong sits coup hep in his heart. When he finished All Hail the power of Jesus name came leaping in song. I covered My face when J M arise fearing his venom but No the Lord had tinghed him also. Mrs Ed. & Ed. spoke also. Peter showed Wisdom in speaking of the swords being beaten into plowshears

July
how much of the usual trouble in Agency matters. Inspector here two weeks. & Now I presume it Must be Agent or all Employees must go. how much I got to love Miss Walker.

Lapwai 3 OC.P M 4th July 1888
Oh these nine 4ths of July I have spent amon Nez Perce the most of them so full of anxiety for they must have a camp meeting & the Lords supper. & Oh how My heart has wept over thse poor poor week people. because they have been led to the camp - or race ground this the second year. if Mr D. had only been firm last year. they are so prone to mix up heathenism races & worship altogether. Peter the New pastor. get My oppinion of this terrible week as well as I could give it to him through tears. there they are near the Fort  with the wild ones from Columbia river Umatillas-Spokans-a few from K & the Lapwaians. God pardon them for they are to enact some of their heathenism naked. I suppose as last year. & Whites from all around to witness their shame & Going to go back to Egypt for certain this time. going to elect Chiefs. the last chief was eight years ago. but Washington will not allow this surely. if J. M. is made Chief I will be voted out at once & at times I wonder if there is any use of doing any thing more. A’s being here has given two leaders to the Session that are leading them fast to-- Oh-that the Lord would not let them go how like Israel in there  waywardness. the sun is shining & the Lord smiling I think upon the other camp at Kamiah - No heathenism there around the temple like the feast of tabernicles. Miss S L McB. Missx Axtel of Chicago & Mrs Scott there. how I would love to be there instead of Sitting here four Miles from A human being all day until three white men passed & some sight seears. My house all locked up. My rooster crowing or the cat purring the only sound but My testimony must be clear & plain. that camp is not the place for a follower of Jesus. the Sick even have been taken there. Such a gathering has not been since their darkest heathenism. God help them to know.

Thanksgiving 1888
How many came up before Me with something destinct about them. the first I remember a donation party to our paster Mr Gorden - how far back that seems - then one in Fairfield I was swollen eyes there for We left for Ss journey the next day. the ten bright ones I spent in the Webber family at North Sewickley. then the ten brighter ones I have spent on the Nez Perce reservation. Why indeed the years grow brighter as I grow older Thanks to thy soothing power My loving Lord - more than I expected. out to worship this evening - Glad to See Elder Abraham did not go to the great feast at James Rubens but Was at the feast at Peters. Jason, Jimmie also think the sequel to James’s feast will show it was a political one. perhaps to talk over the shooting of the YackaMan. by U S Marshall. & the White troubles in the S. & near of New Agent. the Girls S. only eight pupils. Dr W. running it at his own expense. I am ashamed of the doings of Whites the Eaves’ still here but No Mr Deffenbaugh this year. Sick in his Coeur d’Alene home. thanks to God for bringing to nought the councils of the Mighty to send Me off & sure it seems the people have no fear to come to see Me. thanks Lord for all for evrything all comes in & through Thee.
