Rev’d and Dear Sir:
Replying to your kind favor of the 9th instant, which was delayed somewhere, I would say, the arrangements concerning the Misses McBeth as noted by you, are entirely satisfactory to me and may bring about the desired results. Although there are grounds for objecting to Miss S.L. McBeth’s pupils going to Mt Idaho, I shall do nothing to hinder her in operating her school. However I will state for your information the objections which present themselves.

1st If they take their families with them, (they all have families) it will be more expensive than they are able to bear.
2nd Going so far away from their homes (about 28 miles) will necessitate the farm work in the spring and summer, and the caring of stock in winter, being done by the women.  I have authorized Brother Deffenbaugh to inform Miss Kate C. McBeth that I will furnish her with winter quarters at the agency and will render her every assistance possible. As regard Mr Hill, I agree with you, that it would be wise to secure his favor if possible and in my opinion, the only way to do it is to prevail upon him to assume the responsibility of establishing the school….
