Mt Idaho Aug 25th 1886

Kate – dear sister
The letter from Portland Bank which you forwarded had nothing in it about your deposit of $150.00 to my credit. I suppose it was about my salary for July. It is dated Aug. 10th/86 and simply says "Miss S.L. McBeth Lewiston I.T. Dear Madam – Your account has credit $50. deposited by G.L. Deffenbaugh – G.E. Withington" Not a word from the Portland Bank about of any other deposit has reached me yet.

(Of course after their sending the above notice before ‘calling’ for the $150.00 I would need to ask if the $150.00 had not been placed to my credit; and their reasons for not notifying - me of the deposit which I think I ought not to have to do. There is no use in taking the risk and trouble of transferring the $150.00 to Lewiston Bank. It will take the most of it to pay my debts. (the 50.00 lacks over 11.00 of paying Mr. Scotts bill alone. besides but what is the use [illegible] debts only that I need the salary due now.) and a check on the 1st Bk of Portland is as good here as a check on the Lewiston Bank although I had not intended ‘opening accounts’ with the First Nat Bk of Portland again.

Did you or Mr D not tell them to notify me? And give them my present address? I do not know understand why the letter was addressed to me at ‘Lewiston’ It may be that the ‘notification’ of the $150.00 deposit to my credit is lying in the Lewiston Post Office. Please see; and have them forward it to me at once, if it is and if it is not there please you or Mr D write to Portland to send it to me. Perhaps Mr D had better, as they sent notice of his Bk deposit.  Next tuesday wednesday Mr Browns bill for 3 months rents provisions &c falls due. Besides other bills, taxes &c due now.

Please shew this letter to Mr D. (I would have written to him direct only for your letters) And please you & he attend to this matter at once. I have waited until the last moment hoping every day that the ‘next mail’ would bring me the Portland letter and I am so tired of needless care and trouble.

There is nothing new at Mt Idaho since I wrote, save that it is cooler. The smoke had cleared away for several days but is as dense as ever today.  I forgot. Sarah, Marks wife has a little daughter. It was born in the ‘Boards’ house here, last week, so it is among the Mt. Idaho ‘news’

Please give my kind regards to Mrs D

Sue.
