Kate – dear sister-
I ought not to write at night but I must write a little note. Eyes will suffer for it.

Billy came up monday and went home yesterday. Luke sent him to get Miss McB. to write and let Mr & Mrs McConnville and Miss Kate that his little boy (Obadiah I think was the name) is dead – died last Friday I think he said. Luke has only one child living now – the youngest.

Last evening Mr Jeff Rhodes the County Recorder here was driving from Grangeville when his horse ran away and he fell backward out of his little backless buckboard and was killed, died almost immediately. His body is now lying in the hotel. He is to buried at 11 Oclock tomorrow. Tell McConnville, probably he knew Rhodes.

I return Miss Fletcher’s letter – I wrote to her just before she started home, and have not yet had an answer. Do you know if she recieved my letter? I do not understand what she means about ‘recommendation of Presbytery’ Does she mean its recommending any white ministers? Did Woods write the Board of Philips talk – as he said to Philip he would? Parsons says Woods reported Philips talk & the scene in the church to Presbytery (or Synod) at Seattle and the Presbyters ‘laughed.’ Of course Archie is working very busily at Lapwai is the root of the ‘glumness’ of the people. His own people are murmuring loudly at his exactions of money from them etc. etc.

But eyes are paining and I must not write more – Write as soon as you recieve this. Tell me everything – Good night - God bless you.

Sister Sue
