Kate – dear sister-
Eyes are paining so that I can scarcely see. I had an attack, too saturday night of something like the old ‘Grippe" and am not entirely well yet, tho better. I return Watson’s sister’s letter (will return Hattie’s &c soon D.V.) I also return the scrap Mrs Lindsley sent you about Mrs Robinson. I enclose too a scrap from the last "North and West" (newspaper successor to the Occident) an item from the Report of the Fall Meeting of the Womens Missionery Society of Portland Presbytery (N.B. Board). Please read the scrap – which Boards and Societies every where have doubtless read by this time. You will see that it call for "gifts (Xmas) for 400 Indians, from grandmothers to the babies ‘the box to be sent to Miss McBeth of the Indian Mission.’

I told you truly that I did not (and do not) know of a single gift (Xmas) coming to us or to the Kamiah church. You said when you was here that you would attend to Christmas Tree for Kamiah – or as I understood you. Of course I could not have the ‘force’ to ask any gifts from any one after those ‘400 gifts’ are noised abroad everywhere – (cannot even as I had purposed ere long ask the kind old Portland friends for a box of 2nd hand clothing for my pupils & families) We will do without Xmas gifts ourselves without a murmur if only that little band of the K 1st ch is cared for. Of course there will be a great ‘blowing of trumpets’ of the 2nd K over Watson’s Sisters gifts to Archie.

There is a Sunday School in Robert’s church all the time – tho so many of the children are at school. Mrs Solomon told me lately that she still teaches in it. There are plenty of little ones too young for Lapwai, and Robert has most of the adults in a Bible class they answering questions ‘wapsuh’ our boys say. Of course you can spare them some of the ‘400 gifts.’ Your thought about the ‘cotton flannel slips’ for the old women is a good plan too. Solomon asked me lately if they would not have a Christmas tree at Kamiah this Christmas. Do the very best you can for our little K flock. Do not let them feel forgotten. They will have to depend on you alone now.

About the Meadow Creek Elders I do not clearly understand – Are Bartholemew and Jehoshephet suspended, or excommunicated? I did not see Woods letter to them after Presbytery – only the one he wrote saying that if they did not give back the key he would have Presbytery strike their name from the roll etc. Certainly there should be an elder at Meadow Creek & Enoch could even add a third Elder if he chose – if these two are still in office. But I think you had better ask Mr Woods – and have the authority come from him, and not raise trouble for you and Enoch. Of course it is Archies doing with the Meadow Creek Elders.

But I must stop – It is night & I will suffer for this tomorrow. Write soon & often. Keep a sharp look our for A’s doings these days. He is not idle in Lapwai & Lewiston. I will D.V. return the other letters soon but don’t wait. Tell me everything Good night – God bless you
