Kate – dear sister-
Why don’t you write when you know in what suspense we are sitting here. We have had no word from Lapwai since wednesday of last week Will they be at Lapwai at Christmas? think you. My boys were not called or notified save somebody said Dick was. If so he was the only one. Even if they were there what could they do? They would not be allowed to speak. That choosing the ‘12 speakers’ & ‘Chairman’ is the raising up again the old subchiefs, heads of bands and the ‘Head Chief.’ Do the Commis’rs understand! Harry is there. I have just written a note to him in your care. Please send it to him & Roberts too.

I have had a severe attack of the Grippe, had the Doctor. The blood spitting alarmed me, but I am better now, tho still not entirely well. I have school every day & so has Mrs Shearer. If my scholars had been called to Lapwai I would not have hindered, nor would they have refused, but they did not know until [illegible] were about starting tho they had heard that Commis’rs were coming only.

But eyes are painful & I must stop. Write at once please. Tell me everything - what the prospects are. Good night. God Guide & bless you.

Sister Sue
