Kate – dear Sister –
When I wrote to Mr Dulles last Sept. I asked him to hand my letter to Dr Ellinwood when he was through with it. I told you what Mr Dulles wrote about "an investigation by Committee, and decision of Board of which Dr Ellinwood would doubtless write &c." In E-s last letter dated Dec 11th he writes "Your letter has gone too long unanswered, but it covered so many points, and some of them involved in uncertainty, that not until now have I felt clear to write upon the various points.

"First, in regard to the matter of the Kamiah church. It seems to me that without any violent opposition to anybody on our part, the matter is gradually coming into shape. The Second Church will die out, and I think it ought to, though I hope its membership will not die, but be revived and reconciled to their brethren. It has been, as it seems to me a sad mistake. The only way for Robert Williams, is to go forward and live down opposition by keeping his mouth shut as to all controversies, and treating friends and enemies alike until they shall all be friends. I have no doubt that your influence over him, which is greater than that, probably of anybody else, will look to this result." That is all on that subject – And that is enough answer to your question about asking Archie for his Report of the 2nd church. Let that 2nd church alone Kate either for Presbytery or Board. You see the ‘result’ the Board desires i.e. its death & 1st ch only left, and any official recognition of its existence will help to prolong its life and trouble to the Mission – Don’t recognize it in any way without an order from the Board – You are not a Presbyter, but a Missionary of the Board – and the 2nd ch is not connected with the Board

There is no danger that Archie will not report the 2nd K to Pres. They are making a great effort for ‘names’ again so that they can ‘get ahead’ of Robert at Pres. A. or ther his Elders say too that a Presbyter told them (or A.) that if one more woman would tamapaik against Robert it would kill him forever’ (i.e. silence) get him out of their way so that they could gain his church too. And, you may be sure they are leaving no means untried to get ‘one more woman to tamapaik - and if they know of his being chosen by for the Exposition it will make them work the harder to kill him – i.e. get him out of the way faster.

2nd I will send School Reports soon D.V. It is best to have them all Reports on one sheet. Robert was here last week and I think sent you answers to your questions (as his Report of his church). Caleb & Parsons did not get their checks until the 18th when Robert came up. Please send the checks separately like Mr D. Sometimes Rs letters lie long in the office & they cannot go to K after their checks if they go there with Roberts.

2nd The papers said that Walla Walla Pres. is to meet in Waitsburg the 1st Thursday of April. But you had better write the Stated Clerk for fear the time of [illegible] as it had been when our boys started week too soon)

3rd The Board has no right to pay the expenses to Pres of those not working for it and I do not think would be willing to pay them. Moses has no need to go to Pres ever again would only go as help to some of Archies schemes. If Silas goes to Pres. to let them know that he is willing or wishes to go to the Spokans. Or if Archie goes to tell Pres that he will go to Spokans. Then their expenses might be paid as Stated Supplies for the Spokan churches the Boards money could not justly be given to them for the 2nd K tho if Pres. chose to pay their expenses from Presbyterys Expense money & of course it could.

I am writing this at night and eyes will suffer. I wanted to talk more fully but send this now so that you can see what Dr E says about the 2nd Kamiah. I was afraid you would ask Archie for his Report. Let that 2nd K alone altogether Kate this is for Board or Presbytery. Recognizing it in any way will only strengthen it to make trouble.

Write to me soon and often - Tell me everything. May God give you the wisdom & grace you so sorely need, and guide you by His Spirit always – prays

Sister Sue
