Mt Idaho March 10th 1892

Kate – dear Sister
Mrs Dick has just left her keys with me on her (& Dicks) way home to Sakahs. Caleb & Helen started to Kamiah this morning. Caleb is not at all well and looks
badly. You know he nearly died with the Grippe, and had a cough and was very weak all fall. Since Christmas his cough has left him and he had about fully
recovered his health until lately. It may be only temporary effects of the Grippe still. I pray God he will spare him and give him health and strength again if it please
him. He is such a good reliable man – with the elements of a good faithful pastor. He will go to Presbytery if at all able (for the five days ride.) He is perfectly willing
to go to the Spokans, and Helen too if he is at all able. I have said nothing to him about ordination but, if he goes to the Spokans he ought to be ordained first by
Walla Walla Presbytery where you can interpret for him. (Geary would not understand the Nez P. for Confession of Faith words &c) If he is not to go he will not be
ordained now of course. I enclose in this a note to Walla Walla Presbytery. If Caleb is at Pres and is to go the Spokans, and to be ordained at Waitsburg please give
the enclosed note to Presbytery. If he is not to go to the Spokans please keep the note. He is so very diffident, and shy of speaking. Please help him all you can – If
he is not to go to the Spokans he wants to still study and, of course he will have his allowance $95.00 as a licentiate student from the Board still. Please do not forget
it.

I told you I think that the two Spokan churches are only about as far apart as Kamiah and Sakaho, so that one minister if a strong man, could minister to both
churchs. I have sent by Caleb to Robert today the money for travelling expenses of my four pupils who are not licentiates about $10.00 each for man and horse. I
will (D.V.) sent you the money to pay their hotel bill in Waitsburg when you settle for the others. Of course, if Robert and my scholars can go by horseback the other
ministers can go the same way. There is no need for Moses at Pres. He would only go as helper in some of Archies schemes (You know I sent Mr Adair for W.W.
Pres. The Protest against Moses being ordained or put in charge of souls anywhere.) That 2nd ch is not entitled, by the Board to have a representative (pastor or
helper) in Presbytery, or his expenses paid by the Boards money. Has James Hines demitted work? He will only go as helper in some of As schemes.

Is Silas going to the Spokans? He will not if there is any hope of success in As schemes and efforts to make a vacancy in the K-1st & Meadow Creek churches.
Parsons does not want to go to the Spokans and it is very doubtful if he or his children could live in that climate. And he is needed on the Reserve. And for the
Shoshone work. If any thing should happen to Robert Williams, Parsons is the only one for the 1st church, and he should be ordained and placed in charge of it at
once – if a vacancy should occur by the will of God for the sake of the people, to keep Archie and his helpers who are made such desperate efforts for it out of it.
Do not forget if you should be here, and I not Archie, Benjamin & Co are still working hard on the two weak backed Meadow Creek Elders to eject Enoch and put
in some of the helpers and so unite Meadow Creek with the K. 2nd . The M.C. people want Enoch. It is only the 2 Elders do not want him. Get Enoch to tell you or
Pres.

Enoch, I think is willing to go to the Spokans. Parsons would do at Meadow Creek every way. If Presbytery has power to appoint Parsons as Stated Supply or
pastor at Meadow Creek, ordain him and place him in charge, at once as soon as Enoch leaves it if Enoch should go to the Spokans that would be the best plan all
round, I think. But if Presbytery should leave the M.C. church vacant a day should send Enoch to the Spokans – if he wishes to go – without placing Parsons in
charge of M.C. in his stead you know what the results would be. Be very cautious in making a move, A & Co are so sharp. May God guide you & Pres in every
word & act.

Robert W. was here several days last week, studying, went home Friday. There was no word of trouble then. Your letter this week telling of the "tetkin" about him
brought me trouble. You may be sure. It was the first I heard of the story. My scholars, too, knew nothing of it. But I have been looking for something of the kind to
be gotten up before Presbytery Archie (or Elders) said that a Presbyter (Charlie?) had told Archie that ‘if only one more woman would ‘tamapiak’ it would kill
Robert dead’ i.e. get him out of their way forever And I know their rage when they should hear of his being named for the Exposition – his going to which must be
hindered by every means. I have heard not one word save what you wrote in your letter, and do not know what the story is.

Write to me the very day you recieve this. Tell me everything Lest I forget Harry desire to be taken under the care of Presbytery as a Candidate for the Ministry. I
do not want him liscenced now simply taken under the Pres- as a Candidate, remember like Mark. Please remember me to Mr & Mrs McConnville "No one can
take my heart away from McConville" said Robert W. not long ago "They may turn him from me, but not me from him, no matter what they may say – I know he is a
true friend to my people, and to me."

Of course it is imperative that you should to Presbytery if God wills. May God guide it and you in all things prays

Sister Sue.
Write at once – remember Tell me everything

To the Presbytery of Walla Walla

I have known Caleb McAtee for many years. For nearly eight of them he has been my pupil and I have had every opportunity to learn his true character. His life has
been that of an exemplary Christian. He is a good preacher in the Nez Perce, and very acceptable to the people. Perhaps none of my pupils have been more
successful in winning souls to Christ. I have found him so thoroughly reliable, and he has so many of the elements of a true and successful pastor that I can
unhesitatingly commend him to Presbytery as worthy of ordination - if there is need of his services as Pastor over the church among the Spokans, and Presbytery
decides to send him there.
