I thought this morning that I had sent you the last letter before Presbytery, but what you write of Dunlap Parsons troubles me. He is so frail. May God spare him for the sake of his parents, if it please Him. Parsons children could not live in the Spokan country himself either probably. Remember Parsons is not to be sent to the Spokans, Caleb only to be sent there if there is urgent need. I want them both to study for years yet, if possible, but give Caleb up if there is urgent need (only) for the Spokans. I sent you a ‘recommend’ to Walla Walla Presbytery for Parsons. But keep it until you see if he can be sent as Stated Supply (or Pastor) to Lapwai, and so keep Archie out or, if he will be needed for Meadow Creek – if Enoch wants to go to the Spokans. If he is needed as Minister at Lapwai or Meadow Creek then have him ordained at once. Say nothing about it until you see if Enoch does not want to go to the Spokans say nothing about Parsons for M. Creek.

If Peter resigns Lapwai have him sent to the Spokans If he will not go, if he only designs to ‘stop work’ like Silas and take himself out from under the control of Pres. (like Silas) then let Presbytery take his office from him. If he only designs to ‘stop work’ like Silas then that means Meadow Creek, and if Archie get Lapwai then Peter the 2^nd K under Archies control, and not responsible to Presbytery. If Peter simply stops work, like Silas, not obeying or under the control of Presbytery, then Presbytery should take from him the power or an ordained minister (Silas too). If they let Peter keep that power (of Rev) he will be a ‘free lance’ to work trouble in other churches. The influence of Silas not heeding Presbytery, and yet keeping the ministry is very bad. If Peter demits work save under Archies directions let him (and Silas too) be demitted the ministry. Have Presbytery understand clearly the work of Archie in the Lapwai church. He is the root of the trouble with Peter. Spend your strength in bringing Archie to the light. That is better than if spend on two and you will help yourself better than if against Peter. If you can possibly, by any means, get evidence that the [illegible] Sarah case of which Allen wrote, was tried at Lapwai last year and proved false before Pres. last year and yet that Archie, knowing this, brought it up against Robert to Allen at Kamiah and by written ‘charge.’ You will help Presbytery to see clearer and will help to keep Archie away from you at Lapwai more than anything else you can do get the ‘Statement’ of the Lapwai trial from Agent, or McConnville or Felix, or Lapwaian to take with you to Presbytery.It will be your own best defense. Protest too, against Archie being sent to Lapwai to hinder, or destroy your work. I feel sure Dr E would not be willing to have Archie sent to you at Lapwai or pay him a salary there to hinder your work.
