Kate – dear Sister
I have been writing you nearly every day lately, and now send a note to Lewiston on your way to Presbytery (D.V.) as I said I would. Did you get the ‘copy’ I sent you of David Allens letter to Robert about ‘Sarah’s’ ‘charge’ sent him (Allen) by Archie &c? I pray our Father you may be able to get ‘statement’ of Agent or McC or a Lapwaian about the Sarah case. Harry said the Agent tried her story at Lapwai, before Presbytery last year and decided there was nothing of it. She contradicted herself so many times, and does still. But Archie and Co will hold her to the charge Archie sent-in-for his own sake- His own fate depends so much upon his proving it. He will leave no means untried. I suppose that is one thing he is busy with in Lapwai. He cannot hide behind someone else in the Sarah matter as with the ‘rumor.’ (Harry says that ‘rumor’ was clearly traced to 4

of Archies leading members (a plot of Archie) Peter not author.) You know David Allen wrote to Harry about the Sarah case. If you did not get the Lapwai ‘Statement’ and the Sarah case is brought up at Presbytery (Do not you bring it before Presbytery judicially, I mean. Remember, Archie would like to trip you into bringing it before Presbytery.) Watch Archie with Harry and all my boys. He is so tricky.

Wait until you see if it is to be brought up, and then if you did not get the Statement have Harry & the others tell what they know of the Lapwai trial &c. Harry says that that time Roberts horse stood at Sarahs house was about three years ago. They were on their way to prayer meeting Robert a little in advance and someone else and she called Robert in Robert said to ask him (her pastor) about [standing up with’ i.e. getting married to that Thomas Isakiah who caused so much trouble. I do not know if she was a member of Roberts church. (She is a tinum I think & certainly she was is also a member of his congregation.) He was her pastor and I do not think a white pastor would be called to account for going in when called or his horse seen at the house of one of his flock. If you can prove the Lapwai trial – Archie sending in the charge after it, it will be your own best defence to keep him away from you at Lapwai.

Think of my sitting here in suspense. Write to me from Presbytery. May God give you wisdom and strength and grace sufficient and help to His own cause prays

Sister Sue
