Kamiah Nov 2nd 1880
Rev Dr J.C. Lowrie

Dear Sir
I send you, with this a photo of six Nez Perces our three last liscenced ‘boys’, and three of the Kamiah Elders (see back of card) taken on their way home from Presbytery last month. The Artist was not a very good one. There are no good Artists nearer than Portland but it will give you some idea of some of those of whom I talked to you in my last, lengthy long letter reached you, and if this reaches you in safety.

I wanted (and want) all the Elders to study with me, for the sake of their church duties and influence principally that they may be good and intelligent Elders -–Solomon was almost to old to begin (last year) to study but he has, beside his own studies learned much by listening and following the others in their studies in the school room and attends regularly (nearly). Our energetic little Elder ‘Billy’ as W. J. Williams is familiarly called) is present with us in the school room when ever he can though he does not attempt regular study – While Felix is ‘very hungry to know’ and learns rapidly.

I wrote you that Mr D wrote that Silas and Enoch and William had ‘passed a very satisfactory examination’ at Presbytery - Peter Lindsly and James Hayes the two ‘candidates’ who did not go to Presbyter) are finer looking me I think than any in the picture. I had a long talk with Peter yesterday. I had not seen him for a long time before. He will come back to school again this winter (D.V.) he says. William Wheelers wife died about two weeks ago. But, I wrote so fully to Dr Lowrie so lately He is scarcely rested yet perhaps from reading and my own eyes are aching – Hoping to hear from Dr Lowrie a note at least as soon as he can after this reaches him.
I am Yours in the Master Work

S.L. McBeth
