Mr C.E. Montieth

Dear Sir
I can only write a short note this morning, to send by Mr P. I am so busy, and so interrupted; and I want so much to finish the long letter I am writing to eastern friends. I have already missed two opportunities of sending it, and as we have no mail carrier, and can only send to or for mail by chance opportunities when we know of Indians going to Mt Idaho an opportunity once missed may cause a delay of weeks.

As to Miss McBs opinion of Mr C.E. Montieths ‘business capacity, honesty &c’ he learned that to his cost in the long years when her monies were left in his hands, and her business affairs were left in his charge leaving her free to go on with her work with scarcely a ‘business’ thought, or a care for herself in such matters.  I have not forgotten those days, nor the patient, thoughtful helpful kindness shewn her by him and the two so dear to him now resting so peacefully, in the little cemetary at Lapwai. How much I have missed, and do miss them. I have not forgotten how his whole family received and watched over, and cared for Miss McB – never letting her realize that she was among strangers, but rather, among kind home friends, helping her in her work to the extent of their power.

I remember all these things, gratefully though you hear from me so seldom.  This snow cuts off the hopes you can bring Mrs Montieth and the boy over the mountain roads, for a visit to Kamiah this fall. But we will hope for a visit (D.V.) as soon as you can bring them. Please remember me to them in love, and believe me to be
Yours truly

S.L. McBeth
