University of Idaho to Honor Extraordinary Alumni Jan. 23 in Boise

BOISE, Idaho — The University of Idaho Alumni Association will honor two individuals with its 2013 Silver and Gold Awards the evening of Jan. 23 in Boise. Recipients are Tim Woodward ’71 and Brent Keeth ’82, ’96. Honorary Alumna Recognition will be awarded to employee Sandy Larsen for providing 17 years of faithful and distinguished service to the university, 13 of which have been in the Office of Alumni Relations.
Events will begin with a social at 6 p.m. in the Grove Hotel, 245 S. Capitol. Tickets are $25 each or $15 for Vandals who’ve graduated within the last decade. RSVP by Jan. 18 either online at www.uirsvp.com or by phone at (208) 885-6154.
The Silver and Gold award, created in 1982, recognizes living alumni who have distinguished records of achievement and service in their specialized areas of endeavor, thereby bringing honor and recognition to the university.
Nominees are evaluated on their career accomplishments; service to career organizations; voluntary efforts to charitable causes; efforts which have improved the cultural, social, political or economic well-being of society; prior recognition and honors; and artistic, innovative or technical accomplishments.
Here’s a look at this year’s recipients:
• Tim Woodward is a retired reporter and columnist whose stories graced the pages of the Idaho Statesman for four decades. He is most known for his newspaper columns about the people, places, landscapes and events that make Idaho special. His work has become a touchstone for residents. Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter made that point in a nominating letter when he wrote: “I join countless other Idahoans who looked forward to Woodward’s next story because of his unique ability to bring to life so many aspects of our great state.” Woodward recently wrote and narrated “Idaho, the Movie,” a stunning documentary on the Gem State’s natural wonders.
• Brent Keeth is a successful engineer, developer and leader in the computer technology industry. He works at Micron Technology Inc. in Boise. As director of Micron’s Advanced Architecture Group, he oversees the development of devices for crucial in high-performance computing and computer memory. “Since Brent first joined us, his work has made Micron the go-to design resource for innovative and groundbreaking solutions to the industry’s toughest memory design problems – contributing in large part to our company’s successes,” wrote Mark Durcan, CEO at Micron Technology, in a nominating letter.
