Who may use this service?

E-mail reference service is provided primarily for current students, faculty and staff to the University of Idaho, including those students who are currently enrolled in a distance education class or off-campus course offered by this university. Questions about unique resources or collections of the University of Idaho Library are welcome from the general public.

What kinds of questions may I ask?

Any question you might ask at the Information/Reference desk such as:

  • How can I access library databases from my home or office?
  • How can I find journal articles on a particular topic?
  • Can you supply me with a quick fact, such as: a definition, a statistic, a phone number?
If you need in-depth help with your research, try our Research Assistance Program for students or faculty. UI students or faculty may schedule an appointment with a librarian for assistance in finding relevant information for research papers and projects.

How long will it take to get a response?

We try to respond to all requests within 24 hours, excluding weekends and University holidays. A librarian may contact you to ask for clarification or to discuss your request further. Questions requiring more in-depth research will be referred to the appropriate subject specialist, who will contact you directly.
