James R. Fazio

Papers, 1972-1990
1 cubic foot

The papers of James R. Fazio, were donated to the University of Idaho Library by Dr. Fazio in July 1990. They were processed by Judith Nielsen in February 1993.

INTRODUCTION

The papers of forestry professor and Associate Dean of the College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Range Sciences, James R. Fazio, span the years 1972 to 1990. Included are correspondence, press releases, and other material concerning his involvement with the Wilderness Center, Idaho Trails Council, the Overthrust Industrial Association environmental education program, and his friendship with author Michael Frome. Also included are several publications on environmental education.

The papers were left in their received order, and original folder headings were retained. Each area of interest forms its own series.

The majority of the material in the Wilderness Research Center series concerns the distinguished lectureship series given each year by a noted conservationist or environmentalist.

The materials concerning the Idaho Trails Council, of which Fazio was a founding member, include general correspondence, minutes of board meetings, and correspondence and other material relating to the publication Field guide to outdoor courtesy, which was edited by Jim and his wife Dawn.

The next group of papers involves the Overthrust Industrial Association of Denver, Colorado. In 1983 Overthrust funded a project to help reduce the impact of oil booms on small communities in Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah. The workshops were held and the drafts of material were produced, but then the oil market collapsed and the sponsoring companies did not actually produce the materials.

Correspondence with author Michael Frome comprises series four, while series five contains three publications on environmental education, one of them authored by Fazio.
