The recordings of the Latah County Oral History Project were donated to the University of Idaho Library by the Latah County Historical Society in 1987. They were processed by Angelique Holt in 2006.
The Latah County Oral History Project was a bicentennial project undertaken by Sam Schrager and other members of the Historical Society. Between 1971 and 1984 more than two hundred local individuals were interviewed and recorded. Many of those recorded interviews were then transcribed and bound. University of Idaho Special Collections received audiocassette copies of the original reel-to-reel recordings of the interviews, as well as copies of the transcripts.
The interviews collected by the Latah County Historical Society span the years 1971 to 1985. Included in the records are interviews with Mary McConnell Borah and Carol Ryrie Brink as well as numerous other community figures.
These tapes were alphabetized by interviewee and ordered by interview number. A few interviews, conducted later and donated at different times, are alphabetized at the end of the collection in box 19. A guide was created which notes the physical location of the tapes (box number), tape descriptions (including tape number, format, and notes on broken tapes), and whether a transcript of a particular interview exists.
