Women: A Guide to Materials in Special Collections

Compiled by Erika Kuhlman, August 2001

Historically, archives have tended to incorporate the papers of women in with those of her nearest relative (either father or husband). In the post-World War II era, as women have entered the public arena in greater numbers, they have generated papers on their own, independently of their male relatives. In addition, many colleges and universities, such as the University of Idaho, have supported the study of women's history by instituting Women Studies programs and/or Women's Centers. Below is a list of inventories of Idaho women whose papers have been donated to Special Collections, and of collections that include materials relevant to the study of women in Idaho and around the world. In addition, Special Collections has oral histories, secondary resources, small manuscript groups, and historical photographs that may be of interest to researchers.
