Located on the northwest corner of the first floor of the University of Idaho Library, our map room contains atlases, extensive topographic maps of Idaho and the United States, historic aerial photographs of Idaho, and much more. library map room


Types of Maps Available

  • Aerial Photographs of Idaho & Snake River
  • Aeronautical charts (for pilots)
  • Atlases - searchable in Library Catalog
  • Cataloged maps - global coverage - sheet maps indexed in Library Catalog
  • Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) sheet maps (WWII-related countries - 1940s +)
  • Nautical charts - US and foreign country coastal areas & navigable waters - arranged by map number - indexed and also displayable on the N.O.A.A. web site
  • Topographical maps
    • United States - 1:24,000 scale - index to "quad" names in first drawer for each state.
    • United States - 1:100,000 scale - index to map "name" in the first drawer of the state covered. NOTE: "index" is a map of the state overlaid with the "quad" names so that user can determine which quad might cover the area of interest. Maps are arranged by name alphabetically in case drawers.
