Photo text: 'First cabin on James R. McGuire homestead, August 11, 1914. Used as his 'jome' from date of location, fall 1901 to fall 1905, when new cabin was constructed. On October 16, 1905, this cabin, his 'home', had no floor, no door, poorly chinked and not mudded. No clearing around cabin, and no cultivation. McGuire is a saloon keeper at Clarkia, Idaho. The opening for a door is little over 4 feet high.' Note: Marble Creek region homesteads at this time were often part of a homesteads fraud being documented by the US Forest Service.
