Abstract

Transition metal Pentatelluride ZrTe5 is a versatile material in condensed-matter physics and has been widely studied since the 1980s. ZrTe5 crystallizes in the orthorhombic layered structure that held together with space group Cmcm. The motivation of this study is to grow single crystal of ZrTe5. So, by mean of chemical transport reaction, single crystals of both compound were successfully grown by using iodine (I2) as a transport agent in various concentrations. Samples were prepared in different quantities to get successful growth of ZrTe5. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) to identify the crystal phase, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) to find the binding energy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to get the shape of ZrTe5.
