Title:: Tsuki to Ume Iro Fukizumi Yunomi (teacup with polychrome stenciled moon and plum)

Description:: This hemispherical vessel sherd, which is likely from a yunomi (teacup), has a shallow profile and an 8-centemeter rim. The exterior decoration consists of a black hand-painted plum branch illuminated by the moon, which is outlined by pink pigment applied with a fukizumi technique. Although other forms of stenciling declined in the Taisho period, this style of airbrush-like fukizumi stenciling remained popular (Crueger et al. 2006:51,286; Ross 2009:155). The vessel's interior is undecorated.
