Idaho's Women of Influence

A database of important women in the history of the state of Idaho

About Idaho’s Women of Influence

Idaho’s Women of Influence is meant to correct an imbalance in the preserved historical data on women’s contribution to Idaho history.

Started in 2014, IWI was the vision of researchers Annie Gaines and Mike Bullard, and first implemented on Open Journal Systems at University of Idaho Library (see archived IWI site). Originally intended as both a database of important women in the history of the state of Idaho and the home for a peer-reviewed scholarly journal on the same topic, Idaho’s Women of Influence is open to all women connected to Idaho by birth, residence, work, or any other significant factor whose positive efforts and accomplishments contributed significantly to the quality of life in their community, the state, or the world.

However, after changes to infrastructure and staffing, the unmaintained original version became inaccessible. This version preserves the original content and provides the opportunity to add new entries.

Database entries may be submitted online by librarians, educators, museum staff, tribal authorities, women’s organizations, or others researching this area. Each entry must be accompanied by one to five published or otherwise publicly available sources of information. Contributors to the database are also encouraged to create or update Wikipedia articles on the women as well.

Disclaimer: While an effort is made to ensure that all information is responsibly and accurately contributed, it is not possible for the publishers to check every fact. This database is meant to grow into a broad starting point for research about these individuals and their lives. Users should check facts and report mistakes, or provide additional information and resources when available.

Technical Credits - CollectionBuilder

This digital collection is built with CollectionBuilder, an open source framework for creating digital collection and exhibit websites that is developed by faculty librarians at the University of Idaho Library following the Lib-Static methodology.

Using the CollectionBuilder-CSV template and the static website generator Jekyll, this project creates an engaging interface to explore driven by metadata.
