- The phrase “homeland security” conjures up a plethora of images that range from popular television shows to armed border guards. But what do we really mean when we talk about defending the homeland and why are there so many misunderstandings about this complex and robust process? In this talk, Prof. Alessa explores the different meanings and realities of “homeland” and “security” across a plurality of concepts and constructs. As importantly, she discusses how academia can contribute in meaningful ways to ensuring that our nation remains resilient and peaceful.
