About the Collection

This collection presents a sample of digitized pictures primarily sourced from Special Collections & Archive’s U of I Student Organizations Collection, identified internally as Photograph Group 2 (PG2). PG2 contains thousands of photographs dated as early as 1893 and covering more than 100 years of university history. Many of the photos were provided by Hodgin’s Studio in Moscow, while others came from the University of Idaho Publications or Photo Services departments.

The University of Idaho Student Organizations Collection (PG2) documents student life on campus, offering a rich visual record of how students formed communities, expressed themselves, and shaped university culture. Contained in the digital collection is a wide range of organizations and activities, from academic clubs and Greek life to performing arts, athletics, and student governance.

These images illuminate the evolving social, cultural, and political dimensions of campus life, revealing how students navigated belonging, leadership, and change across generations. Researchers can use the collection to explore themes such as student activism, social life, institutional traditions, and the everyday experiences that defined the University of Idaho community.

Technical Credits - CollectionBuilder

This digital collection is built with CollectionBuilder, an open source framework for creating digital collection and exhibit websites that is developed by faculty librarians at the University of Idaho Library following the Lib-Static methodology.

Using the CollectionBuilder-CSV template and the static website generator Jekyll, this project creates an engaging interface to explore driven by metadata.
