30 Receive UI Cooperative Education Awards

May 7, 2002^MOSCOW – More than 30 students, employers, faculty and staff were recognized at the April 30 Cooperative Education Awards Reception at the University of Idaho. The reception celebrates significant contributions UI students make during their internships and recognizes partnerships with organizations committed to providing relevant learning experiences.^ Those honored come from the colleges of agriculture and biological sciences, art and architecture, business and economics, engineering, letters and science, mines and earth resources, and natural resources, and their community partners.^“Outstanding Students of the Year” and their hometowns were: ^1) M. Teague Ashburn, a psychology major from Genesee, worked as an undergraduate research assistant with the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Psychology Research Experience Program. His research project revealed that the majority of smokers are willing to quit and participate in treatment where integrated into normal health care delivery. He will graduate with a degree in psychology in December.^2) Erika Pedroza, an accounting, major from Mountain Home, completed an internship for Student Action with Farmworkers. She was placed in Newton Grove, N.C., and gave immigration assistance to local migrants and farmworkers with the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry. She plans to travel to Ecuador and to graduate in accounting by May 2004.^“Outstanding Service Award” winner was^Judith B. Wallins, director of the Tutoring and Academic Assistance program, influencing many students. Her support of the Cooperative Education program, organizing of the first Career Decision-Making Freshman Interest Seminar, and development of the Career Tool Kit course, are but a few examples.^Student Honorable Mentions from Idaho were:^ABERDEEN Myles Brown, Mechanical Engineering, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard^BOISE Melissa J.
