38 New Faculty Set High Standards for Academic Year

Aug. 22, 2005 BACK-TO-SCHOOL NEWS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO MOSCOW, Idaho – The appointments of 38 new University of Idaho faculty and administrators, and 18 internal promotions over the summer is setting the tone for a robust academic year. “I’m joining UI with a strong incoming group of academic leaders,” said Doug Baker, new UI provost who came on board Aug. 8. “It’s wonderful to see their excitement and spirit of service to the students and university.” UI President Timothy White hosts an open house at his home at 5 p.m. on Aug. 24 to welcome Baker and his wife Dana Stover, UI faculty member. New administrators and faculty include: ADMINISTRATION NEW ADMINISTRATORS Doug Baker joins UI as provost after a 24-year career at Washington State University. Most recently, he served as WSU’s vice provost for academic affairs and director of undergraduate education. He is a professor of management and will become a tenured professor in UI's department of marketing, management and operations. Baker holds a doctoral degree in business organizational behavior and theory from the University of Nebraska; and master’s and baccalaureate degrees in management from Colorado State University. Nancy Krogh was named registrar and will assume her new position Oct. 15. She comes to UI via the University of North Dakota, where she served as registrar. Krogh received her bachelor’s degree in arts from UND, her master’s degree in education from Montana State University at Billings and her doctoral degree in education from Montana State University at Bozeman. Barry Bequette was appointed the new director of the District III cooperative extension in Twin Falls. Prior to coming to the University of Idaho, Bequette served as county extension director, associate agent and lecturer in plant sciences at the University of Arizona. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Murray State University, and his doctoral degree from Mississippi State University. Roy Tweedle was named UI-Boise business manager. Tweedle previously served as a consultant to the University of Utah orthopedic specialty hospital, managing building design, operations, and construction. He will work on grants and contracts management, Human Resources and finance management for both Idaho Department of Water Resources and UI-Boise. He received bacherlor’s and master’s degrees in political science and public administration from the University of Puget Sound. Larry Young, former associate professor from Brigham Young University and executive director for Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, was named manager for academic collaboration and will spearhead Career and Professional Planning’s efforts in service-learning and academic internships. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at BYU and his doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. INTERNAL CHANGES Suzi Billington, an 11-year veteran at UI, moved internally to assume the director of Career and Professional Planning position in August. She will oversee the department’s resources and services for students, academic departments and employer/community partners. Most recently, she served as acting director for CAPP and manager for Career Advising and Professional Development. Billington received her bacherlor’s degree in business administration from WSU, and her master’s degree in education from UI. Linda Morris returns to the vice provost of academic affairs position. Morris served as interim provost since January, but resumes her previous position as Doug Baker joins UI as provost. Morris began her career at UI in 1974 and has worked with many academic units. She is a professor of business and served as director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs at UI from 1994 to 1997. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business education from the University of Oklahoma at Norman, a master’s degree in business administration from Central State University at Edmond, Okla. and a doctoral degree in education administration from UI.
