Beverly Lowry is UI’s First Distinguished Visiting Writer for 2003-04

Oct. 1, 2003^MOSCOW – Nonfiction writer and novelist Beverly Lowry is the University of Idaho’s first Distinguished Visiting Writer for the 2003-04 school year. She will present her work during a public lecture Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the College of Law Courtroom.^ In addition to the reading, Lowry will lead workshops for UI’s student writers during her visit Oct. 13-17.^ Lowry has written six novels and two books of nonfiction, including “Crossed Over: A Murder, A Memoir.” It documents how the author dealt with the death of her son in a hit-and-run accident.^ Her latest book is “Her Dreams of Dreams: The Rise and Triumph of Madam C.J. Walker.” Walker was one of the most successful African American businesswomen of the early 20th century.^ Lowry teaches nonfiction at the Master of Fine Arts Program in creative writing at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.^ Her visit is sponsored by the Department of English.^UI’s Distinguished Visiting Writers Program was instituted in 1978.
