Boise Firm to Lead Development of UI Site in Boise

August 10, 2000^^CONTACT: Laura Hubbard, director of Capital Planning and Capital Budget, (208) 885-7044, lhubbard@uidaho.edu, or Kathy Barnard, University Communications and Marketing, (208) 885-6291, kbarnard@uidaho.edu.^^BOISE - ZGA, long-time Boise architectural and planning firm, will join forces with Seattle-based NBBJ to develop a site master plan and initial building designs for the University of Idaho Foundation's property in downtown Boise. ^^"The Foundation Board and I are pleased with the selection of this team of consultants to develop the best Boise home possible for the University of Idaho and its partners," said Foundation President Emma Atchley.^^UI President Bob Hoover echoed those sentiments.^^"This is a prominent project for the university and the Foundation," he said. "We are looking to improve the access and presence of the University of Idaho in the state capital, and also provide a place for partnering with other higher education institutions, governmental agencies and private business and industry."^^Foundation board members last December approved the purchase of a 2.5-acre parcel of land located on Broadway Avenue between Front and Myrtle streets near Julia Davis Park. The UI currently leases nearly 30,000 square feet of classroom and office space in Boise, the majority of which is leased in the MK Plaza office complex down the street from the purchased parcel.^^The ZGA/NBBJ team was selected from among numerous firms in an open, competitive process. The selection committee included UI Foundation board member Jack Lemley of Boise, UI facilities staff, various UI program representatives and a representative from Idaho State University.^^The consulting team will work closely with Foundation members, UI faculty and staff, as well as representatives from partner organizations to complete a comprehensive master plan that will guide current and future developments on the property. That plan will direct the location of buildings, parking facilities, pedestrian and vehicle access and landscape treatments.^^-30- krb-8/8/00UIF== ^
