From Moscow to the Moon: University of Idaho Students to Work with NASA

May 21, 2008 HOMETOWN NEWS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho students will experience the science of space this summer as selected recipients in NASA internships and fellowship opportunities. The Idaho Space Grant Consortium (ISGC) has selected 14 students from the State of Idaho as interns for summer 2008, 12 of which are from the University of Idaho. Seven undergraduates will work at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. Four graduate students were selected to study within the NASA Ames Education Associates Program, working on several different projects within NASA. Another student also was selected for the NASA Academy, a program for those interested in a career in aerospace-related fields. All students will work on projects related to one of NASA’s current missions. Two University of Idaho alumni and former NASA ISGC fellowship recipients recently were hired by NASA. James "Nick" Bernardini now is employed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and Austin Howard will start with NASA Ames this fall. These opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students are only some of the opportunities created in Idaho through the NASA ISGC program.
