Kathryn Supko lauds teacher education; Pledges $100,000 to UI’s Campaign for Idaho

^August 8, 2001^^^MOSCOW – Kathryn Ann Supko of Boise, nationally recognized for her success in the investment business, recently paid a tribute to teachers and teacher education while pledging $100,000 to The Campaign for Idaho.^“Having graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in education, I have come to appreciate how often the skills acquired in that course of study are used in my business practice today,” said Supko. She added that raising two sons contributed to her belief that “professional, dedicated educators hold the key to the successful futures of our children and the direction of our country."^Her contribution will support three different areas: the Boise Initiative, the Lionel Hampton Center, and the Kathryn Ann Supko Teacher Education Scholarship Endowment.^Born and raised in Lewiston, she graduated from the UI in 1975. Her career with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance began in Moscow. Soon licensed to sell investment products, she moved to Boise in 1986 to open a branch office for Robert W. Baird & Co. During her career, she has served as branch manager, established herself as one of the top 10 producing managers out of 101 offices nationwide, and was recognized as the number two leader in sales production for the West Coast. Currently Supko serves on a committee for the New York Stock Exchange, and was elected regional representative for the National Association of Securities Dealers regulatory group.^Her community involvement has included the Saint Alphonsus Foundation Board of Directors, Boise Philharmonic, Boise Art Museum, Boise Chamber of Commerce, and she recently received the Order of the Gem State Award from the Idaho Lung Association.^Supko is a member of the UI Foundation and the National Campaign Council for The Campaign for Idaho, a $100 million, multi-year fundraising campaign aimed at supporting the UI’s strategic initiatives.^^Media Contact: Kathy Belknap, UI College of Education, (208) 364-4087, kbelknap@uidaho.edu^^-30-^(kb) 8/8/01-ED/CAMPAIGN^^
