Lara Swimmer and Robert Zimmer to Discuss the “Palouse Project”

Thursday, August 28 2008

Aug. 28, 2008 MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Seattle-based architect and architectural photographer who created the large-scale photo collages of the Palouse, on display at the Prichard Art Gallery for this summer’s Art Walk, will return to Moscow to discuss their work in an open lecture. Robert Zimmer, a University of Idaho alumnus, and Lara Swimmer, his wife and architectural photographer, will talk about their exhibit, “Lara Swimmer and Robert Zimmer: Topographies in Built and Natural Landscapes,” at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, on the University of Idaho campus in Renfrew Hall, Room 111. The installation features large-scale collages of photographs of the Palouse’s landmark structures in black and white photographs and color photographs of its landscapes. Zimmer and Swimmer worked with nine University of Idaho architecture, art and design students to help design the installation specifically for the gallery called the “Palouse Project.” Roger Rowley, director of the Prichard Art Gallery, said the collaboration and involvement between the artists and students was a unique joint effort that the galley hasn’t seen before. “The lecture is the best format to understand what the Palouse Project is about and how it was integrated into the college curriculum,” said Rowley. The exhibit opened in June as part of the 2008 Moscow Art Walk, and will run at the gallery through Sunday, Sept. 14. The Prichard Art Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Gallery is closed Monday. The gallery, an outreach facility of the University of Idaho, is located at 414/416 S. Main St. on the corner of Fifth Street and Main Street in downtown Moscow. Admission is free.
