Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Student Competition Winners for College Day, Feb. 24

Feb. 24, 2005 MOSCOW, IDAHO College vocal and instrumental groups and soloists from throughout the Northwest performed at the second day of the 2005 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho. The University of Washington was selected as the Outstanding Guest College Band at the festival and Olympic College at Bremerton, Wash., received Outstanding College Multi-mic Choir honors. Student musicians from Whitworth College at Spokane, Wash. were named Outstanding College Instrumental Combo and Bellevue Community College at Bellevue, Wash. topped the Outstanding Community College Combo category. Runner up: Washington State University, Greg Yasinitsky, director Outstanding Open Division Band Lewiston, Idaho Lewis-Clark State College, Bill Perconti, director Outstanding Open Division Choir Boise, Idaho Boise State University, Jim Jirak, director Lakewood, Wash. Runner up: Pierce College, Kelly Kunz, director Lewiston, Idaho Runner up: Lewis-Clark State College, Joel Pals, director The nine outstanding college instrumental soloists performed together as a group during the evening concert in the Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center. The four outstanding college vocalists also were featured on the festival's main stage during the evening concert.
