Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Student Competition Winners for Feb. 25

MOSCOW, IDAHO - Garfield High School of Seattle, Wash., earned top honors at the final day of student competitions at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho. The group was selected Outstanding Festival Band. The day’s competitions featured more than 375 high school and secondary school bands and combos and soloists. Groups from across the U.S. and Canada performed to earn Outstanding Young Artist awards. Student winners were announced at the Outstanding Young Instrumental Artists Concert in the Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center. Sarah Parenteau, Wellington Secondary School The outstanding instrumental soloists were featured as a group during the Avista Giants of Jazz Concert, Saturday evening in the Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center. The young musicians shared the stage with the likes of jazz artists John Clayton, Russell Malone, Benny Green and Jeff Hamilton.
