Movin’ On: UI Dance Center’s Diverse Fall Concert Slated for December 8 and 10

Nov. 29, 2005 Moscow, Idaho—The University of Idaho Dance Theatre’s main fall concert, “Movin’ On,” offers patrons a taste of ballet, jazz, hip-hop and modern dance choreographed and performed by innovative students of dance and established dance professionals. The concert will be held Dec. 8 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hartung Theatre. Tickets are $9 for adults; $7 for students and children under 12. The shows will feature the work of nationally known choreographers Amy O’Neal and Victoria Uris; local choreographer Crystal Fullmer; UI and Festival Dance faculty member, Kerry Parker; and UI dance program graduate student Shelly Werner. Five dance program undergraduate choreographers: Andrea Holsclaw, Boise; Tara McFarland, Challis; Allison Beaux, Spokane, Wash., Ashley Swinney, Spokane, Wash.; and Kelli Darter, Summitville, Ind., will debut their work. Performers include Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance undergraduates: Beaux, Darter and Holsclaw; Grant McCracken, Jerome; Tara McFadden, Moscow; Cynthia Johnston, St. Maries; Erika Colombi, Albion, Wash.; Andrea Critchlow, Richland, Wash; Stephanie Wolpert, Tacoma, Wash.; Moscow High School student Maia Lassen-Purser; UI music undergraduate Paul Hanes, Port Angeles, Wash.; Patrick Bell, Moscow; UI & Festival Dance faculty, Erika Colombi, Albion, Wash., Kerry Parker, Pullman, Wash., and Lee Fortunato, UI assistant professor of microbiology, Moscow. The evening features the hip-hop/modern dance choreography of Amy O’Neal, co-director of the Seattle dance company, Locust. “O’Neal brings a unique, witty, urban style to Moscow for this concert,” says Greg Halloran, director of the UI Center for Dance. Performances will include “Breakers,” choreographed by Uris and translated from the Labanotated score by Halloran; the Festival Dance Junior Ballet Company in an excerpt from Swan Lake; and a generational dance choreographed by graduate student Shelly Werner, owner of Spectrum II Art and Dance School in Moscow. Spectrum II’s “over-40” dancers include Lee Fortunato; graduate students in dance pedagogy Janine Kovsky, Clarkston,Wash., Shelly Werner, Moscow, and Phyllis Gooden Young, Pullman, Wash., as well as local dancers April Rubino, Trish Gardner, and Monica Diteman.
