Outstanding University of Idaho student honored by Idaho Public Television

June 18, 2008 MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho student Mary Packer recently received the Jack Schlaefle Memorial Scholarship Award. The $360 stipend is awarded annually through the Idaho Public Television Endowment to an outstanding student employee. Packer is a Master of Fine Arts student in Theatre and Film, and serves as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Journalism and Mass Media. “She always is willing to go the extra mile, and pitch in wherever needed,” said Kris Freeland, station manager at KUID-TV, the Idaho Public Television station housed at the university. “She is very deserving of the award.” Packer, of Lewiston, earned a bachelor’s degree in radio/TV/digital media production from the University of Idaho in 2005. While pursuing her MFA, she teaches principles of radio /television and digital media production, as well as audio production, and serves as a teaching assistant in broadcast news and studio program production at the university. She has worked at KUID-TV for more than two years. As part of her graduate program in theatre and film, Packer also serves as a sound engineer, sound designer and lighting designer for theatrical productions at the university. Her recent work includes university's theatre productions of “Death of a Salesman” in 2006, “The Clean House” in 2007 and “Urinetown” in 2008.
