UI Alumni Awards Night Honors Top Students

Dec. 7, 2004 MOSCOW, Idaho -- The University of Idaho Alumni Association will present Awards for Excellence at its banquet Friday evening, Dec. 10, at the University Inn Best Western. 2004 UI Alumni Association Dean's Scholarship recipients receive $500 to $1,000. This program, now in its second year, is funded by the UIAA board of directors and the criteria is determined by each college. Recipients are: BOISE Charles Scott, business major, College of Business and Economics JEROME Karen and Laura Marshall, computer science majors in the College of Engineering MOSCOW Mackenzie Shardlow, wildlife resources and natural resources ecology - conservation biology major in the College of Natural Resources; T. Bart Plocher, molecular biology and biochemistry major in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences; Megan Spendlove, sport science major in the College of Education; Thomas Welch, history major in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences Peter Marcy, mathematics major in the College of Science Also, UI students who represent the top 40 seniors, two law students and 14 graduate students will be honored at this year's Alumni Award for Excellence Banquet. They must have at least a 3.5 grade point average or be in the top 10 percent of their class to be nominated. A panel of alumni, faculty and staff reviewers selected 56 students of excellence from over 200 nominees, 17 with a perfect 4.0 gpa. The cumulative gpa for the group is 3.88. Each of the awardees selects one faculty or staff person to accompany them to the banquet, in thanks for their mentoring or inspiration.
