UI Fisheries Expert Bennett Retires After 28 Years of Service

April 10, 2003^MOSCOW – Fisheries Professor David Bennett is retiring from the College of Natural Resources, effective June 21, 2003. Bennett's 28 years of service to the UI will be celebrated Saturday, April 26, at the University Inn Best Western in Moscow^An expert in fisheries biology, ecology and management, Bennett is well known and respected by his students for his mentorship. A leader in the fisheries profession, Bennett currently has studies focusing on large predator effects on prey fishes, bioenergetics of fishes, and effects of substrate composition on salmonid spawning success.^Bennett earned a bachelor's in wildlife and a master's in fisheries at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, and his doctorate in fisheries science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute University. He worked as a research associate on the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory and as a fisheries biologist for the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources before coming to the UI in 1975. ^Bennett's many colleagues and friends are invited to a dinner and recognition ceremony. Guests may enjoy hors d'oeuvres and a no-host bar at 6 p.m., followed by a ham/turkey buffet at 7 p.m. Cost is $20 per person, and contributions may be made toward a group gift.
