UI Scholars Program Continues to Grow

October 13, 1998^^MEDIA CONTACT: Joanne Buteau, University Communications and Marketing, (208) 885-6476 or jbuteau@uidaho.edu.^^The University of Idaho awarded another 42 top Idaho high school seniors with UI Scholar awards this fall. These new UI freshmen have each been given a four-year renewable scholarship of $3,000 per year for a maximum of $12,000. ^^The UI Scholars program was initiated in fall 1997 to give Idaho's top high school seniors an incentive to obtain their college education in the state. Students who score in the top three percent nationally on the SAT or ACT and have an outstanding high school GPA are eligible for the scholarship. ^^In its first year, the university awarded 22 UI Scholar awards, with 20 of those students continuing on at the UI in their second year.
