University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene’s Patrick Nutter: Outstanding Employee and Practical Innovator

Nutter, UI Coeur d’Alene building superintendent, was recently named on of the university’s Outstanding Employees for 2006. “He anticipates what the grounds and buildings need, researches the costs of a couple of ways to do things, always runs those numbers by staff, and keeps the place running and looking great,” said UI Coeur d’Alene Dean Jack Dawson. “We appreciate Patrick’s thoughtful planning and innovative solutions. He is very resourceful.” Nutter holds Northwest Building Operators Association certification, is a licensed general contractor and is certified by the City of Spokane in boiler operation and electrical maintenance. He provides building maintenance, landscaping and troubleshooting services at the center. Whenever possible, Nutter’s innovations combine beauty and function. His many projects have included installing ceiling fans that provide a visual point of interest at the heart of the facility, and allow once stagnant air and heat to circulate. He also has built a mobile, custom platform to accommodate UI Coeur d’Alene presenters and performers, and has modified mobile walls for art installation. His handiwork and high standards are apparent inside the university’s Coeur d’Alene facility, and outside, are reflected in immaculate flower beds and landscaping. Nutter has been with UI at Coeur d’Alene for almost four years and In the construction industry for more than 20. He said he is “humbled and just blessed” to receive the award and “grateful to be a part of the University of Idaho.” Outstanding employee awards are designed to honor non-faculty staff who are believed to be outstanding by their co-workers and/or supervisors. The goal of the awards is to encourage more support and recognition of the staff for their dedication and hard work on behalf of the university. Nutter is one of only 19 University of Idaho employees so honored in 2006.
