Description:
A few miles above the south shore axis of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers John Day Lock and Dam on the Columbia River, the newly relocated Interstate Highway 80N and the Union Pacific transcontinental main line swing across the John Day River. Here is shown the new four lane highway bridge at John Day and the new Union Pacific Bridge necessitated by the relocation work. Riverward from the two new crossings may be seen the old highway bridge and the Union Pacific bridge as they cross the John Day River at the present Columbia River level. Both of these approaches will be inundated with the creation of the John Day reservoir.
