The two-inch square butt-welded specimens, machined to 1 1/2 inches diameter before testing, due to limited capacity of tensile machine, show breaks both in weld and outside weld. Note slag pocket in specimens at left. Specimens on right broke outside weld and reduced end area was caused by necking of bar at break. H.E. Foss, photographer
