![A thorough understanding of the factors affecting the cost of pumping water for irrigation does not presently exist. The purpose of this study was to try to gain better understanding of these factors and attempt to determine the specific effect which total pumping lift may have on the cost of pumping water. Data were gathered from various sources over five states and separated according to the source of power used to pump water. A multiple regression analysis was run on the data, which included a total of 193 observations, and the relative effect of each selected variable was determined from this analysis. After a preliminary analysis was run, 14 different equations were selected for the analysis.
