Atlanta Georgia October 2th. 1864

Dear Father & Mother

I take my pen in hand to write a fue lines to you & let you now that I am well at presant & I hope thes fue lines will find you the Same We are to atlanta now & heve jest got our bunks made we are Camped little out one Side of the town it is a large place larger then Jackson but thare is nothing in the place nor in the Contry the army has eat every thing up. I dont now how Soon you will get this letter Wheller & Jeneral hood have got in behind us & made a Rade on the Road betwene Chattanooga and Nashville but they are after him hot blox. if you get this letter before you Send the box Father you need not in put the gluvs in the box nor neck hanker chief you May Send them by male put the neckhanker Chief in one of the gluves Role the gluves up tite put a Cloth a Round them Sew it, then put a Round a pece of paper & direct it Same as usal & it will Come Rite thrue all Rite for eney thing that is Sent to a Solder will Come all Rite not over one pounds heft they will charge 8 Cents a pound Some boys of our boys have tea Sent them from home & some tobaco…

I will tell you what I want you to Send me in the box. & you may Send it as Soon as you get this letter & fix the box. & direct the box to atlanta it wont be So long on the Road it will Come Rite Strate thrue. Father & Mother put up ten pound of butter in tin Cans five pounds in a Can & Soder the Covers on each Side of the Can So it wont Come off & git a bottle of peper Sauc & a haf paper of good fine ginger it is very good for the diere. & then Some good onias & dride appels & Mother if you Can git a little tin bucket with a Cover & bale to it & make Some kind of purvers a pale that will hold about a quort or more it will be handy to Stew Sauc in or make tea in pack it Snug & put the Cover on tite with a Rag over the Cover & it will Come all Rite it will be So good for we dont have nothing but Sow bely & bred biscuit is the most we have, Coffee & Some bens. Send it Mother & Father if you Can. wall I must Close & go to diner the men has Called So good by for this time Rite as Soon as you Send the box Send the gloves by male the box & things 30. or 40. pounds will be hevey a nuf.
